The Bewaerschole opens the exhibition Alles Verschuift Hier Op De Kop by Femke Gerestein.

In this exhibition, Gerestein presents a video installation in which the body explores its relationship to its surroundings: how the landscape is perceived, experienced, and continually reappropriated.

For this exhibition, Gerestein spent two winter months in residence at AIR Ellemeet. Prior to her stay, she chose to focus on a single, specific location: Verklikkerstrand in Burgh-Haamstede. Over the course of this period, the beach shifted—along with the artist herself, the camera, the weather, the wind, and the wider environment. This constant state of flux became the inspiration for the exhibition’s title: Alles Verschuift Hier Op De Kop (“Everything Shifts Here, Turned Upside Down”).

About Femke Gerestein

Femke Gerestein is a visual artist working across drawing, watercolor, and film. Central to her practice is the relationship between the body and its environment. Each work is preceded by a personal performance, in which she uses her own body to explore and experience a particular setting. Her work moves between presence and disappearance, estrangement and belonging, engaging with questions of how we position ourselves within the world around us.
