The Last in Traditional Dress
Antje de Waaij-Blom was the last resident of Dreischor to remain faithful to her Schouwen traditional dress until the end of her life. For her, wearing regional costume was a natural part of daily life and a way to express identity and tradition. Regional clothing not only told the life story of the wearer but also conveyed information about generation, marital status, wealth, and even mourning.

Forever Remembered
In memory of Antje and the vanishing tradition of regional dress, a statue was erected in Dreischor. The artwork, an initiative of the Renesse Foundation, was officially unveiled on 14 September 2012 and presented to the municipality of Schouwen-Duiveland. Antje was born on 6 August 1886 in Dreischor and died on 18 July 1981 in Zierikzee. She symbolizes a vanished world that still holds a lasting place in the cultural heritage of Zeeland and Schouwen-Duiveland.

A Lasting Tribute
The bronze statue of Antje de Waaij-Blom was created by visual artist Eric Odinot from Zierikzee and cast by Jaap Hartman from Woudrichem.

This statue was donated by the Renesse Foundation.
