Looperskapelle

Looperskapelle is a quiet hamlet on Schouwen-Duiveland with a rich past. Its name refers to a medieval chapel founded by the Loopers family. The village was first mentioned in written records as early as 1324.

Until the late 16th century, a church stood here, which was demolished in 1590. What remains is the walled cemetery – a peaceful spot among the fields, now designated as a cultural-historical monument. You’ll find old gravestones and a timeless atmosphere that recalls the past.

Nestled between Noordgouwe and Kerkwerve, Looperskapelle lies in an open landscape shaped by former salt marshes and creeks. Though it consists of only a few houses, the hamlet radiates character and a deep connection to the island’s history.

A visit to Looperskapelle is like stepping back in time. Perfect for those who love heritage, tranquillity and small, meaningful places – spots that don’t need grandeur to leave a lasting impression.
