Burghsluis

Burghsluis is a charming and quiet harbour village on the Oosterschelde, near Burgh-Haamstede. The village has a small marina and offers beautiful views over the water, where fishing and pleasure boats regularly sail by. Thanks to its location on the Oosterschelde, Burghsluis is a popular spot for water sports enthusiasts, divers and nature lovers. Along the dike, you can take lovely walks and enjoy the salty sea air and the vast landscape. Burghsluis' most famous building can be found a little further towards Westenschouwen: the Plompe Toren. This tower is the old church tower of the drowned village of Koudekerke. The Plompe Toren is accessible and during the climb to the top, the story is told of an evil merman who lost his wife to local fishermen. The flag of the island of Schouwen-Duiveland originated from this legend.
