International Recognition
Bläsz’s heroic actions did not go unnoticed. The dog received widespread media attention and was awarded a prestigious American medal. He was also rewarded with a collar and a liver sausage as a token of appreciation for his courage and efforts during the disaster.

A Lasting Memory
On Bethlehemplein in Scharendijke, a statue now stands in honor of Bläsz. This artwork, created by Miems van Citters, was made possible thanks to contributions from the Renesse Foundation, various entrepreneurs, and the village council. For Miems van Citters, it was a personal project: her father, former mayor Van Citters of Burgh-Haamstede, was Bläsz’s breeder. The dog’s origins lie in Switzerland, where his parents came from.
This statue was donated by the Renesse Foundation.
