Natuurgebied De Schelphoek
Nature reserve De Schelphoek is a unique creek area on Schouwen-Duiveland that emerged after the Flood of 1953. By closing the gaps in the dike and building a ring dike around it, this beautiful creek was created. A forest has been planted around the creek, creating a remarkable nature reserve.
Many bird species, such as owls, nightingales, and great spotted woodpeckers, breed in the area. With a bit of luck, you may even spot the kingfisher, which often sits on a branch above the water. From the lookout point on a caisson, a concrete box used to close the gaps in the dike, you can enjoy a panoramic view of the area.
Discover the peace and beauty of this unique nature reserve during a walk or bike ride and learn more about the flora, fauna, and history of De Schelphoek.
