Varreput
Discover the rich history of Varreput at the Balie. This historic well was originally dug to rinse the sheets produced in the flourishing linen industry in the area around Zierikzee. The woven materials were then stretched out on the nearby Raamstraat to dry on linen racks. This also explains the origin of the name "Raamstraat."
Today, Varreput is a fascinating relic of this ancient tradition and has had many functions over the years, such as a fire well, water reservoir, and watering place for horses and cattle.
