Meestoof Willem Drie

The Meestoof Willem III, established in 1863, was once a crucial production location for the processing of madder root in the southwest sea clay area of Zeeland. It was responsible for producing red dye for textiles, an important export product of Zeeland since the 14th century. However, with the rise of artificial dyes in the late 19th century, the Meestoof lost its original function.

Today, only the high part of the Meestoof remains, the drying tower, which was preserved in 1917 and used to build the agricultural barn of Huize Potter. Although the Meestoof is no longer in use, it still holds historical value and can be visited to learn more about the history of Zeeland and its textile industry.
