2. Zierikzee

In Zierikzee, the Names Monument near the Nieuwe Kerk commemorates 218 residents of Schouwen-Duiveland who perished during the Second World War. At Meelstraat 55 stood the former synagogue, inaugurated in 1825 and in use until 1920. At the Stadhuismuseum (Meelstraat 6), then the police station, a memorial plaque honors policeman Menke Koos van der Beek, one of the Ten of Renesse. Stolpersteine in the city, such as at Sint Domusstraat 17 and Havenpark 5, mark the former homes of Jewish residents deported in 1942. At the corner of Grachtweg and Caustraat stands the Jewish Monument, unveiled on May 4, 1960, bearing the names of 22 Jewish residents who died.
