Nationaal Monument Watersnood 1953

The National Monument Flood Disaster 1953 consists of four caissons, which were recognized as a monument 50 years after the disaster. These caissons can now be visited at the Flood Museum.

Varreput

The Varreput, located near the Dikke Toren in Zierikzee, was once used as a rinsing place for fabrics. Woven materials were then stretched out on nearby streets to dry on special frames, known as "ramen." This site is a reminder of the city's rich textile history.

Elkerzee

Elkerzee was once a village with a church, school, and shops. Mentioned as Hildchereshe in 1156, later Elegarsee and Elcherzee. After severe damage from the North Sea Flood of 1953, the church was demolished. What remains is a hamlet with a rich history.

Bruinisse

Bruinisse, a mussel village as it should be. Popularly abbreviated as 'Bru'. The village seamlessly merges with the harbor or vice versa. Many amenities and restaurants can be found in the village, with the annual mussel festival, the Visserijdagen

The sisters Kaatje and Kootje grew up in Burgh and together ran the famous hotel-restaurant Westenschouwens Welvaren in the heart of Westenschouwen for their entire lives. They were known for their cooking skills and warm hospitality — even Princess Irene loved to dine there.

Scharendijke

Molen Aeolus

Visit Molen Aeolus, a beautiful corn mill from 1739 located in Dreischor. This ground-level mill with a round stone structure offers a stunning view of the landscape and can be visited by appointment and when the mill is running.

Naterstreek

De Naterstreek is an important nature reserve for various birds. Throughout the year, you can enjoy the large bird diversity here. Especially in spring and summer, you can spot spoonbills, marsh harriers, and geese here.

Getijdenpoel

The tidal pool in Bruinisse lets you explore the sea life of the Oosterschelde up close. At low tide, you’ll spot crabs, shrimp, small fish, and anemones in shallow pools. Bring a net and go exploring at the foot of the dike. Fun for families and nature lovers!

Meestoof Willem Drie

Off-leash area Schelphoek

In the eastern part of the Schelphoek, dogs are allowed off-leash on the trails. This area lies between Fritureluur and the Schelphoek viewpoint. In the rest of the area, dogs are welcome but must be kept on a leash in the forest.

Witte van Haamstede, illegitimate son of Floris V, became a Zeeland war hero. He fought bravely for the liberation of Zeeland and lived at Slot Haamstede. His statue by the castle, a tribute to his heroism, was donated by the Renesse Foundation.
