The Oosterscheldekering is a unique construction in the Netherlands and is part of the Delta Works. With a total length of 9 km and 62 sluices, it is one of the largest projects in the Netherlands and provides extensive protection.

Adriaan Fondse was born in Zonnemaire and later lived in Oosterland, where he worked as a constable and chief sergeant of the Marechaussee. He was known as just, strict on the law, and outspokenly anti-German.

De Zeelandbrug

Zonnemaire

Zonnemaire is a small village with around 755 inhabitants. The name originates from "Sonnemare," referring to the water between the islands of Bommenede and Schouwen. "Sonne" stands for south and "Mare" means water. One of Zonnemaire’s most famous historical residents is Pieter Zeeman.

De Slikken van Bommenede
